How can I find and safely free up hundreds of gigabytes of storage?

I'm trying to install Apex Legends, but Windows says there isn't enough free space. I checked my drive and found that Counter-Strike 2 uses around 70 GB, while Roblox is the only other game installed. I don't keep many pictures or videos, yet roughly 400 GB is being used somewhere else. I've already tried deleting a few files with help from an AI tool, but I'm not sure what is safe to remove and haven't found what's consuming most of the storage. What's the safest way to investigate the drive and clear unnecessary files?

Install a disk-usage analyzer such as WizTree. It scans the drive and displays the largest folders and files, making it much easier to see where the missing space is. Check the file paths before deleting anything, and avoid removing Windows or program files unless you know exactly what they are.

Look through the AppData folders as well, especially Local and Roaming. Some applications leave behind caches, logs, downloads, or data even after they’ve been uninstalled. Don’t delete the entire AppData folder—identify the specific application folder and clear only obvious cache or leftover data.

Windows’ built-in Storage page is a good first check: open Settings, go to System, then Storage. It breaks usage into categories like apps, temporary files, system files, and other data. Also check whether Windows is creating unusually large restore points or backups, since those can sometimes consume a surprising amount of space.
