I'm looking for active online communities focused on software engineering, programming languages, or frameworks. I've searched around but haven't found many places with consistently useful discussions. Smaller communities are welcome too, especially ones where people answer questions and discuss practical development. I'm particularly interested in Java-focused groups that aren't dominated by low-effort or overly casual conversations.

A lot of active developer communities are discovered through project documentation, code repositories, livestreams, and developer profiles rather than search results. Smaller groups connected to code-review streams or open-source projects can be much less noisy, with members who actually respond.
Large communities can look busy while having very little useful discussion. I’d prioritize a smaller, language-specific group with recent technical conversations over one showing a high member count but little activity.
Communities centered on a specific language or framework usually work better than huge general programming groups. They tend to have more focused conversations, and people are more likely to help with real questions. For Java, look for groups organized around the JDK, Spring, JVM development, or Java user groups.
