Can I Get Cloud Credits for an MVP Before Incorporating?

I'm still at the idea-to-MVP stage and haven't incorporated a company yet. I'm trying to keep personal spending low while building an initial prototype and am considering AWS Activate or similar programs. Can I qualify for cloud credits without a registered business? Which options are most accessible at this stage, and are there legitimate accelerators or startup communities that offer credits without requiring funding or investment? I'm especially interested in experiences from people who received credits before incorporating.

It’s worth comparing several provider programs instead of focusing only on one. Other major cloud platforms sometimes offer introductory credits for startups, including offers lasting several months. Some programs accept pre-incorporation founders, while others require a registered business or a referral from an accelerator, so check the current eligibility rules before applying.

For smaller initial credits, incorporation may not be required. Having a real domain, a basic product website, and an email address using that domain can be enough to show that you’re building something legitimate. Approval and credit amounts can vary, so it’s worth applying directly rather than assuming you’re ineligible.

Incorporating is often inexpensive and can make applications for startup programs easier, while also helping with ownership and intellectual-property concerns. Depending on where you live, forming a basic business entity or registering as a sole proprietor may be relatively simple. You don’t necessarily need outside investment, but having a formal business can improve your eligibility for larger credit offers.

In some places, you only need a basic business registration or business number to get started; the exact requirements depend on your country and state.

You may be able to keep the first version within the free tier or at a very low monthly cost by using modest instances and shutting down anything you aren’t actively using. Some founders spend only a few dozen dollars per month during the MVP phase, especially if they self-host where practical. Set billing alerts and usage limits so a test workload doesn’t create a surprise bill.
