I bought an SSD that was advertised as new, but CrystalDiskInfo reports a bad health condition. It shows two critical warnings: available spare capacity has fallen below the threshold, and the drive has been placed into read-only mode. The health percentage still says 96%, but the drive has around 20,000 power-on counts and 3,360 hours of use. Is there anything I can do to repair or reset these warnings, or should I return the drive?

Those warnings indicate that the SSD is failing. The spare-area warning means the drive has used up too many replacement blocks, while read-only mode means its controller is preventing further writes to protect the remaining data. Back up anything important immediately, avoid trying to reset the health indicators, and request a refund or replacement. A drive with thousands of hours and roughly 20,000 power-ons clearly should not have been sold as new, regardless of the 96% health figure.

I bought it from a second-hand marketplace, so I’ll focus on backing up anything on it and filing for a refund. The power-on count and hours make the “new” label especially suspicious.
