Is My Phone Compromised After a WhatsApp Call?

I had a call with a friend whose phone was compromised, and now I'm worried that my phone is compromised too, just from using my phone number on WhatsApp. I've tried resetting everything on my devices, but a few days later, my Instagram account got suspended due to unauthorized access. Someone suggested it might just be an Instagram bug, and I felt reassured for a bit. But then, I wanted to download chat history from both my account and my girlfriend's account. I managed to do it on my account, but I forgot her password, so I asked her through Instagram message. I then downloaded her chat history and deleted it, but later on, I saw that she was active when she told me she wasn't online. Could someone else have accessed her account? I'm really stressed out about this situation and I don't have the money to buy a new phone. What should I do?

I get that this all feels overwhelming, but remember, those online statuses can be misleading. Just because her profile said she was active doesn’t mean someone hacked in or that your phone is compromised. The chances of someone directly hacking your phone are really low; you’re likely just stressing unnecessarily. If you're really worried about privacy, consider modifying how you use your devices.

Honestly, it sounds like you’re really overthinking this. Most phones aren’t as easily compromised as you might think, especially if you’re just using WhatsApp. Your girlfriend might just be active without realizing it, or she could be lying, which happens, too. If you’re really concerned about spyware, there’s an app called iVerify that can help check for it. Just chill for a bit; it's probably nothing.

As a cybersecurity expert, I can tell you this whole situation seems blown out of proportion. First off, asking for your girlfriend’s Instagram password is a huge red flag in a relationship—it's not a great sign of trust. This Instagram suspension could definitely be a known bug, and here's a video explaining it. And regarding being "compromised," unless there’s serious evidence, you’re probably stressing for no reason.
