Should I buy a new RX 9060 XT 16GB or a used RTX 3080 Ti for 1440p gaming?

I'm in Egypt, where GPU prices are considerably higher, and these are the best options I've found. The new RX 9060 XT 16GB costs $525, while a used RTX 3080 Ti costs $545 from a store about two hours away. I'm planning to upgrade to a 1440p monitor and would be happy with roughly 70–80 FPS at medium-to-high settings in single-player games. I'm comfortable using upscaling or frame generation, and I'd like the card to last around five years.

The 9060 XT is new and should include a warranty, but the price is higher than what some people recently paid. A 16GB RTX 5060 Ti costs about $180 more, so it is outside my budget. A Radeon 9070 costs around $700, which is also a difficult stretch.

The store selling the used 3080 Ti says it has been tested for thermals and performance. I can ask for photos and benchmark results, but I have no experience buying used GPUs and cannot easily test it myself because of the distance. What should I check, and is the 3080 Ti's extra performance worth giving up the warranty and buying an older card?

The RTX 3080 Ti is substantially faster in raw performance and would generally be the better performer at 1440p. However, it is an older, power-hungry card with no guaranteed remaining lifespan or warranty. Before buying, ask for a recent FurMark or similar stress-test video showing the final score, GPU temperature, hotspot temperature, fan behavior, and clock speeds. Also ask whether it has been used for mining, whether it has ever been repaired, and whether the store offers any return period or written testing guarantee.

I’d avoid making the decision based only on frame-generation support. The 3080 Ti still has strong raw performance and can use modern upscaling and frame-generation solutions, but it remains an older GPU with higher power consumption and more wear. If you can comfortably absorb losing the purchase price and the store offers no return protection, choose the 9060 XT. If the used card has a written warranty and passes proper tests, the 3080 Ti is the faster value option.

A used RTX 4070 Super or another newer midrange card could be worth checking too, even if it costs somewhat more. A used RTX 3080 10GB for $440 is less attractive for a five-year plan because the lower VRAM capacity may become limiting at 1440p. Likewise, a newer Radeon 9070-class card would be the ideal performance upgrade, but it only makes sense if stretching to $700 will not create financial pressure.

For only $20 more, the new RX 9060 XT is the safer purchase. You get a warranty, fresh components, lower risk, and 16GB of VRAM, which is useful if you intend to keep the card for several years. The 3080 Ti may deliver more frames today, but a used card at this price only makes sense if the store provides a meaningful warranty and the benchmarks confirm that it is healthy.
