I'm considering whether to pursue a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science. I already hold a Bachelor's in Health Science, but I'm looking to switch careers because I'm not satisfied in my current job. Ideally, I know having both degrees would be best, but I need to balance this decision with time and financial constraints. I'm confident I can get accepted into good programs and could complete the necessary prerequisites within a year. Ultimately, I want to know which option will help me better break into the field and improve my job prospects.

I was in a similar situation and started with a post-bac BS program but quickly switched to an MS program because I found the peer level wasn’t what I needed. I wanted to be surrounded by more advanced students, which I found in my master's classes. It’s made a big difference in my learning!

It really depends on what you’re aiming for. If you're looking to enhance your resume, a Master’s might give you an edge since it suggests more advanced knowledge. Just keep in mind that some jobs might not differentiate much between a BS and MS, so it's worth researching job postings to see what employers in your target area value. Plus, make sure to check how the programs compare in terms of course offerings, as the content you’ll learn is crucial too. Don’t forget, beyond the degree, having practical skills, like a solid portfolio or certain certifications, is key nowadays!

You only need one BS degree, so definitely go for the master's! It’ll be more beneficial for your career in the long run.
