Hey everyone! I just picked up a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 1600AF. I'm a bit worried about whether my power supply unit (PSU) will support the new CPU. Here's my current build:
- Motherboard: AsRock B450M Pro4 F
- CPU Cooler: ID-Cooling Frozn 620
- GPU: Nvidia 3070
- PSU: Corsair CV650
- RAM: 2x16GB DDR4 at 2666MHz
- Storage: 1xNVMe 256GB, 1xSSD SATA 500GB, and 1xHDD 2TB.
I plan to upgrade to an 850W PSU in a few months, but I can't do it right now. I also have to update the BIOS, but AMD advises against using newer BIOS versions for my current CPU model. I'd love some advice on whether I should go ahead with this upgrade. Thanks for your help!

Your current PSU should be fine for the Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Just make sure to update your motherboard's BIOS before swapping in the new CPU. Definitely worth it!
Yeah, definitely update the BIOS first. I get the hesitation, but you’ll need that for stability. Just do it, and you’ll be all set to enjoy the new CPU.
I plan to do it this weekend when I'm off work.
While updating the BIOS is essential for compatibility, don't sweat it too much. Your PSU can handle the load, especially since CPUs generally use less power than GPUs. You'll be alright as long as you get that BIOS sorted out soon!
Thanks for confirming that!
Thank you for the tip!
