Lately, my Android phone has been acting strange by automatically downloading a number of games from the Play Store without any action from my side. I noticed apps like Temu, Shoppee, and a couple of puzzle games pop up unexpectedly. While I've uninstalled them, it still makes me really uneasy. There haven't been any other signs of trouble except for my phone being a bit slow, which I think is just due to its age and limited RAM. I ran scans with BitDefender and Play Protect, and both said everything is fine. Should I consider a factory reset to be safe?

It might not be a straight-up malware issue. Sometimes, these unwanted downloads are just features from your phone provider, especially with brands like Huawei or Vivo. You should definitely check the model and carrier for any settings you can tweak that might be causing this. Let’s dig into that a bit more! What carrier are you on?
Is your phone a Samsung? They have some specific apps that might act this way, but if it’s a Vivo, it’s likely something different.
I wouldn't rush to a factory reset just yet. First, see if there are any apps you've installed that you don’t use frequently. Review the permission settings for each app—sometimes one app can have too many permissions which rings alarm bells. Also, run an anti-virus scan to double-check for any issues. Just remember, factory resetting should be your last line of defense after backing up everything!
Which free anti-virus program would you recommend? I’ve been using BitDefender but was wondering about other options.
