Hey everyone, I need your opinions on whether it's ethical to use AI to rewrite someone else's material for clarity and lower educational levels, as long as you properly attribute it. My friend recently did this with a full article—she didn't just quote parts but had the whole thing rewritten. She intends to give proper credit and include a disclaimer saying that it's been rewritten for better readability. What do you all think? Is this acceptable?

As long as she cites her sources and follows copyright rules, it should be fine. It’s similar to summarizing someone’s work—just be sure to give credit where it's due!
I’m curious about "apparently acceptable"—who decides that? Rewriting something entirely with AI and then attributing it to the original author might not sit well with many academics. Seems quite unethical to me!
I think it's ethical! Just be upfront that it's AI-generated and remember that AI content generally doesn’t have the same protections as original work. It might actually help creators as it allows remixed ideas to flourish.Â
But what if someone rewrote a classic novel aimed at a younger audience? The essence would be lost. What's the point if you're just dimming down the original work without adding something valuable?
I don’t completely agree! An original author has the right to their text. Using AI changes things since it's more than just a simple summary; it's a significant alteration of the original work. The author should decide how their content is shared.
