Feeling Overwhelmed in a New IT Role: Need Advice

I recently lost my long-term job due to shifts in international trade, but I was offered a position at a different company that has never had dedicated IT support before. While the new management is willing to invest in upgrades, I'm feeling overwhelmed running the whole show with outdated technology. I'm tasked with replacing old PCs one at a time, which is manageable, but I keep making mistakes that leave me worried about my job security.

I've hit a few snags like mistyping hostnames, which wasted my time troubleshooting, and I accidentally deleted the wrong machine from the system, causing delays for my colleagues. There's a lot on my plate, and while the environment is low-pressure, I'm stressing about my performance. I want to prove I can handle this role but I'm afraid my confidence is taking a hit. What can I do to feel more secure in my position and reduce these mistakes?

Don't be too hard on yourself! It sounds like you're in a tough situation stepping into a role where you're basically building IT from the ground up. Mistakes are part of the learning process. Like someone said, your hostname mix-up is something you'll catch as you grow more familiar with the system.

The router incident? Not your fault if the ISP misled you. Remember, you’re making improvements every day, and that's what will matter long-term! Just be honest with the team about the adjustments you’re making; they’ll appreciate the transparency and realize that growth takes time. You're doing well!

Exactly! Plus, you can't really compare this to jobs where things were already in place. You're creating systems and improving efficiency, which is a big deal!
