I've noticed that whenever Windows installs updates while I'm away from my computer, OneDrive somehow reappears. I thought I had uninstalled it, but it always returns, and if I'm not there to decline the backup request, it automatically starts backing up my documents. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

If you're logged into a Microsoft account, just set up OneDrive and choose not to back up your documents. Once you set that, it shouldn't bother you again about backups. You can leave it enabled and just avoid using it.
Using a local account instead of a Microsoft account seems to be the most foolproof method to keep OneDrive from messing with your files. Just disabling it doesn’t feel reliable because Microsoft might change that behavior at any time.
I'm not a fan of OneDrive either—Google backed up my phone photos against my will, and that trust is gone! If you really want to be sure, you could sift through every registry setting related to OneDrive and disable it from there, though I'd be cautious about doing that.
From my experience, one trick is to disable OneDrive from starting up with Windows. That way, it won’t pop up every time you boot your system.
There's a support page that explains how to turn off or uninstall OneDrive. Basically, unlinking and uninstalling it should stop it from automatically coming back after updates. Even if by some chance it does, you’d need to log back into it for any syncing to occur, so keep that in mind!
