Looking to Upgrade My PC: Where Should I Start?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my PC. My current setup is feeling pretty outdated, especially since my 5700XT is showing its age. I'm considering upgrading to a 7800XT, but I'm worried that it might bottleneck with my current CPU. If I want to upgrade the CPU significantly, that means I'd have to replace the motherboard too, and then I'd need a new power supply. At that rate, I could end up changing most of my PC, including the RAM (wanting to go to 32GB) and even my monitor. I'm hoping to do all this without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

Upgrading your CPU, motherboard, and power supply is definitely the way to go. That i7 6700K will absolutely bottleneck the RX 7800XT, so it needs to be on your list to upgrade.

I suggest upgrading the motherboard, CPU, and RAM first, then holding onto your GPU for a bit. Your CPU is quite old, and it might not even meet the minimum specs for many new AAA titles. You’d likely see a decent improvement with just those upgrades!

Consider getting a Ryzen 7600X or 9600X along with a B650 motherboard and 32GB of RAM. After that, wait for GPU prices to normalize over the next six months. Your 5700XT can still hold up for a while, but you need a better CPU and motherboard, especially since your current one doesn’t support overclocking. Also, look into M.2 SSDs—they're a game changer for load times and overall performance!

Honestly, I'd usually recommend upgrading the GPU, but given today's prices, you might get more value out of a new CPU and motherboard combo. Your CPU isn't terrible, so you could manage with a new GPU too. I faced a similar issue a few years back and ended up doing an entire rebuild except for my GPU.
