Should I Risk Buying an Older RX 400-500 Series GPU?

I'm considering buying a used RX 400 or 500 series graphics card since they're priced around $40 to $60. However, these cards are almost 10 years old, and I'm worried about how long they will last. My budget is pretty tight, and I really can't afford to have a card fail on me shortly after purchase. I could stretch to $80 if needed. I noticed that the newer RX 6400 and RX 5500 XT cost about $80 to $90, while the RX 6500 XT is around $90 to $100. On top of that, NVIDIA equivalent cards are about 30% more expensive in my country. What do you all think I should do?

If you're looking at older cards, I’d suggest considering the GTX 1660. It’s not too old and can be found for around $100, which is a bit more but offers better performance than the RX 400-500 series. I’d also recommend keeping an eye on local prices to see if you can find any good deals.

Unfortunately, around here, the GTX 1660 is priced at $120, which is out of my budget.

I've got a friend who’s been using an RX 580 for ages with no problems, so don’t underestimate their longevity! But yeah, the age factor is definitely a concern. Just make sure to check the card’s condition and if possible, ask about how it's been used.

I hear you! Those cards can hold up okay, but I'm really anxious about getting one and having it break soon.

If you're set on sticking to a low budget, the RX cards could be fine for light gaming. Just remember they won’t last forever, and if your friend’s finding the equivalent Nvidia cards too pricey, maybe wait a little longer to save up for something more reliable.

That’s good advice. I’ll keep an eye on pricing and might hold off for a bit.
