Why is my Gen4 NVMe SSD running slow?

I'm having issues with my Gen4 NVMe SSD not performing at its expected speeds. It used to run at around 450 MB/s, but I managed to get it up to 3.5 GB/s. However, that's still below the advertised speeds. I'm wondering if this is due to my CPU bottlenecking the performance or if there might be something wrong with my BIOS settings. Currently, I'm using AHCI mode and have also tried RAID. Any insight or recommendations would be really helpful!

Have you tried a few troubleshooting steps? Updating your motherboard's BIOS and your SSD firmware could help. Also, consider adding an M.2 SSD heatsink with a fan to keep it cool. It can boost performance significantly. And don’t forget to clean both the M.2 slot on your motherboard and the SSD itself to remove any dust. It could help with contact issues!

I've already done the updates, and my Gen4 SSD has a heatsink installed. I might give cleaning a go to see if that changes anything. Thanks for the suggestion!

Make sure to clarify what your read and write speeds are measuring. Not all testing software reports speeds the same way. For instance, tests run with Samsung Magician show that you might be getting 3500 MB/s, which sounds closer to what the Kingston KC3000 should achieve. Just double-check if you're monitoring read speeds versus write speeds and ensure you aren't mixing up units like MB and Mb!

I ran the tests on Samsung Magician and confirmed the 3500 MB/s for both read and write. Initially, I was just getting 450 MB/s. If I remember correctly, the Kingston KC3000 is supposed to outperform that significantly.

Also, remember that Samsung Magician noted the Kingston drive running at PCIe gen. 4x2, which could be part of your slowing issue, especially if some settings still haven't taken effect.
