How can I keep my brother off my new computer?

I recently got a new computer, but I'm having a hard time keeping my brother from accessing it. No matter how many times I change the password, he still manages to get on. I'm curious about what methods he could be using to bypass my security and what I can do to prevent this kind of access in the future.

It sounds like your brother might have set up his own user account with a password. You should check the settings under Accounts to see if he has his own login. If he does, you can delete that account or set restrictions on it. Also, think about setting up BitLocker to encrypt your drive; this way, even if he tries to manipulate things, he won’t get in without the password.

Yeah, definitely check the accounts. Managing who has admin rights can make a huge difference too.

And remember to change the passwords for the Admin account regularly!

A good way to really lock things down is to set a BIOS password. This way, he can't even boot the computer without it. It's an extra step, but it adds a solid layer of security against unauthorized access.

Just be careful not to forget the BIOS password. It's a pain to reset!

True story! Also consider pairing this with a user password for added security.

Have you checked for any suspicious software like a keylogger? Sometimes siblings can be crafty. If you're not sure, a fresh install of the operating system might also clear any hidden threats and will reset everything.

You might want to consider some physical deterrents too! When you finish using the computer, unplug it or tuck away the keyboards and mouse. It might seem silly, but it’s an easy way to ensure he can’t just hop on whenever.

Or just hide the computer when you're not around!

That sounds like way too much work! Just take the power cable!
