Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed as a new intern in a sysadmin/devops role. During the interview, I excitedly talked about my homelab and my love for playing Factorio, which somehow landed me this internship. Now that I'm here, I can't shake the feeling that I'm underqualified for the enterprise environment, where everything has real consequences. I've just completed my training and orientation, but I've already been assigned some tasks, like cleaning up an old vSphere system, setting up RBAC in our test environment, and doing hardware research for a new lab setup. If all goes well, I might even get to fly out and get hands-on experience. I'm reaching out for advice on good resources, aside from just reading the documentation, and any tips on what I should know to avoid being dead weight for my team. Thanks in advance!

You don't need to worry about being unqualified; that's basically the point of internships. You're there to learn! Just pay attention, ask lots of questions, and lean on your coworkers for help. They should be willing to guide you through it all. Don't forget, interns are not expected to know everything, so take this as a learning experience.
If you're worried about breaking things, don't stress too much; they shouldn't leave you with production tasks yet. For your hardware research, the Dell support chat can be a great resource—they'll help you spec things out. And when it comes to RBAC, always double-check for backups before making any changes! Trust me, it saves a lot of headaches later.
Definitely back up anything important before making changes. Also, it helps if you write down all the permissions before you change them, just in case you need to revert.
