What’s a Good Budget Upgrade for Ray-Tracing GPU?

Hey everyone! So I'm feeling a bit out of touch with my current GPU, the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Despite still performing pretty well, it lacks ray-tracing support, which means I can't play the new DOOM, and yeah, I'm not too happy about it! I'm looking for a moderate upgrade that won't break the bank. I've always found GPU naming conventions super confusing, and every time I search for options, I just find posts saying how terrible they are. What should I be considering for a good upgrade?

If you’re considering AMD, some GPUs without native RT support can still handle software emulation, especially under Linux. I’ve seen the Vega 56/64 and RDNA1 cards do pretty well with games like Indiana Jones. Not sure about the new DOOM, but since it runs on the same engine, there's a good chance it’ll perform well too.

For ray tracing, I’d suggest looking at something like the 4070 Super or Ti. Anything lower just isn't going to provide a satisfying experience, to be honest.

Is the 4070 Ti on par with the 5070? I can't seem to find a 4070 in stock, but there’s a 5070 for €650, which seems like a solid step up.

Check out benchmarks and see how different cards perform at the resolution you want. Comparing FPS to price is the best way to narrow it down. TechPowerUp has some great reviews that could help you!

Thanks for the link! The chart is a bit tricky to read though. I noticed that the RTX 3060 Ti 8GB is pulling 81fps while the RTX 3060 12GB is only at 64fps. That ‘Ti’ really seems to make a difference! Also, it looks like the RTX 4070 is doing way better than the RTX 5060.
