Hey everyone, I haven't used a laptop or desktop for several years—just my phone. Back in the day, I had a Windows 7 computer for fun, and I got a Linux laptop from school that was similar to Mint. It worked at school, but when I took it home, I couldn't get the internet working. I even got lost trying to follow commands in the terminal, so I never really got the hang of it. I couldn't let my dad replace it with Windows because I found Tux too adorable! Now that I need a laptop for college, music production, and some amateur design work (even though I'm not great at it), I'm looking into Linux distros. I've read that Ubuntu and Mint are good for beginners, but I heard Mint is very Windows-like and I'm a bit confused about the differences. I know Mint is based on Ubuntu, which itself is based on Debian, so how different can they be? I also stumbled upon some laptops with Debian 12 pre-installed. What's the deal with Debian? Can I easily switch distros if I want, and will my apps work across different ones? I don't have any coding or terminal knowledge either, just to let you know!

Before diving in, make sure to check if the apps you need for music production and design are available on Linux. There are great tools like Gimp and Krita, but if your college uses Adobe software, you might run into some issues. Music production tools are available, but it depends on what you’re specifically looking for!
I just found out that my favorite music app now has a Linux version too! I guess I'm leaning toward checking this out.
