I'm about to get a Sony BDP-S390 Blu-ray player, but I'm in a situation where I can't access my router, so I can't connect it to my Wi-Fi or use WPS. I'm wondering if I can connect the Blu-ray player directly to my PC using an Ethernet cable. Would this allow me to use it in a similar way as if it were hooked up to my network? Thanks for any advice!

You can't just connect your Blu-ray player to your PC with an Ethernet cable and expect it to work. The two devices need to be part of the same network to communicate, which won't happen this way.
If your PC can access Wi-Fi, you might be able to share that connection through the Ethernet port. Check out some guides on how to do that. But it seems like you haven't mentioned why you can't connect your player directly to Wi-Fi if you have the password. It might be worth considering!

I know it has Wi-Fi, but I wanted to avoid using WPS and just connect directly to my PC instead. I'm not sure if that would work.
