I recently bought an AMD 5700 CPU and I'm trying to use it with my old MSI MPG Z490 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard. The CPU fits in the socket perfectly, but my PC won't power on. Interestingly, when I take out the CPU, the PC powers on fine. I can't determine from the manufacturer's website if the CPU is compatible with my motherboard. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Unfortunately, your Z490 motherboard isn't compatible with the AMD 5700 CPU. The Z490 is designed for Intel's LGA 1200 socket, which only supports 10th and 11th gen Intel processors. The AMD 5700 uses the AM4 socket. Just ensure you're using the correct motherboard for your CPU to avoid any issues.
Yeah, you’ll want to get an AM4 motherboard, ideally something like a B550 or X570 if you're planning on getting a decent GPU or fast SSD.
Your motherboard is definitely not compatible with your new CPU. The Z490 is an Intel board, and you're right to be cautious about possibly damaging your CPU or pins from trying to force it in. You'll need an AM4 motherboard, like the B550 or X570, especially if you're looking at PCIE 4.0 for a newer GPU or M.2 SSD. Always check the compatibility list on the motherboard's website for the best info.
I see! My socket says AM4 too, but I guess I need to double-check the model of my motherboard.
Definitely check! The right board will make all the difference.
So, if I've got an AM4 socket but had an Intel processor before, does that mean I'm looking at the wrong motherboard? It sounds like I need to get a different one for my 5700!
