Why does my RAM spike to 99% on Linux Mint?

I've been using Linux Mint for about 3-4 days now and it's pretty great overall, but I'm struggling with a RAM issue. Every few hours, my RAM usage spikes to around 99%, forcing me to reboot my laptop. I'm using an Acer Nitro V15 and have the latest version of Mint. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

Also, is your Mint running on Cinnamon, MATE, or Xfce? If you’re running Cinnamon, try installing uBlock Origin to reduce extra load from ads or scripts. Alternatively, if the problem persists, consider trying a lighter distro like MX Linux or even a lighter browser setup.

Have you tried pinpointing which specific process is consuming all your RAM? Sometimes it can be straightforward; just check the resource manager and see what's on top.

How do I do that? I’m still getting used to this system.

It sounds like your browser might be the culprit, especially if you have several tabs open on Facebook or Instagram. I've noticed that videos in secondary tabs can really hog RAM, leading to those spikes. You might want to check which process is using the most memory when that happens. It's worth using a tool like 'htop' to see what's going on.

I'm using Firefox too, but I only have around 5 tabs open. It doesn’t matter though; after a while, even being idle, my RAM is still full! When I checked with htop, it showed that 'cinnamon' was using a lot of resources.
