Why Is My Intel Fan Going Loud Then Silent?

I've got an Intel stock cooler for my i3-10305, and I'm noticing that the fan gets really loud at times and then suddenly goes quiet. I know stock coolers aren't the best, but this seems off. The computer is running Proxmox, but it's not under heavy load—just powering on without running anything. I've set the BIOS fan profiles to silent mode, yet this issue persists. I do have some video footage of the behavior, but I can't share any attachments here. Any advice on what my next steps should be?

It sounds like your fan might be reacting to thermal conditions. Have you checked if it's getting louder because of dust build-up or if the thermal paste has dried out? Those are common culprits with stock coolers.

That's interesting! But if it's newly bought, could the thermal paste really be bad? I've noticed my temperatures are pretty normal, around 30-40°C. The fan's loudness seems to happen in a pattern, every 20-30 minutes. I've also been vacuuming regularly and using an air filter at home, so dust shouldn't be an issue.
