Why do my edited photo dates cause weird posting issues on Reddit?

I have a bit of OCD and I like to keep my collection of pictures in a certain order. Recently, I changed the dates on all my photos to make them chronologically aligned, setting each one a day newer than the last. However, after doing this, when I tried to post them on Reddit, they appeared as links that directed back to my post instead of displaying the images properly. I'm confused because the only change I made was modifying the dates. What could be causing this issue?

It's strange, but sometimes when you change file properties like date modified, it can mess with how sites interpret those files. Glad to hear you fixed it by re-sending and re-downloading, but you're right, it's odd that just a date change would impact how the image is shared.

Have you tried posting a new image that you didn't edit at all? It might just be the date-modified pictures causing these link issues, as they potentially lose some metadata when altered. If that's the case, it seems like Reddit is having trouble recognizing them as images instead of links.

Yeah, I only had issues with the ones I changed the dates on. I even tested it with a fresh picture and it worked just fine. Just seems to be related to the metadata changes.

I wonder if the platform uses the date metadata to determine the display format or something like that! Your experience is definitely unusual. It might be a good idea to keep backups of your photos in their original states just in case you encounter more issues like this in the future.
