Is My PC Upgrade a Good Choice?

I'm looking at upgrading my current prebuilt rig which has an RTX 2070 Super, Intel i5-10400F, and 16GB of RAM. I'm considering new parts, which you can check out here: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7V7fjn](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7V7fjn). My budget is around $1800, and I won't be getting new storage since I just bought a 1TB NVMe drive. This is my first time putting together a build rather than just buying a prebuilt, so I might have made some mistakes. I'm gaming on a 2K 144Hz monitor and I don't need to play on ultra settings, but I want to make sure I can still run ray tracing well like I do now. Any feedback on whether these parts are compatible and if this is an upgrade would be awesome!

If you're aiming to run those ray tracing features, you'll definitely want an RTX card. Your list seems a bit limited, but there's room for improvement. Check out this alternative build for potentially better performance: [https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kite2652/saved/jRqF4D](https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kite2652/saved/jRqF4D). Just be wary if you're waiting on a new GPU; it might take a while for reviews to surface to avoid any surprises.

This alternative build looks cheaper. Should I trust it for the same or better performance? Also, will I really need to wait for the new GPU to release to get a reliable review? Also, I meant ray tracing, not RTX; are there good AMD cards for that support too?

Consider cutting down on the cooler budget. You could use that saved money to invest more in either the CPU or GPU. It could really boost your overall performance!

Which cooler would you recommend? If I downgrade the cooler, how could I upgrade the CPU or GPU instead? I think I'd prefer to save on the cooler and keep the CPU and GPU as they are.
