Hey everyone,
I have a Group Policy setting that denies write access to removable drives that aren't protected by BitLocker. While this is working as intended, I keep getting this annoying prompt whenever I insert an external storage device: "Before you can save files on this drive, you need to encrypt it using BitLocker." This includes memory cards and other devices like Barco.
I want to keep the setting in place but would love to know if there's a way to disable that prompt while maintaining the same behavior. Any ideas?

It sounds like you want to keep the policy that restricts access to unencrypted drives without the hassle of that prompt. Just FYI, it's going to be tricky since the prompt is tied directly to the policy. As far as I know, you can't just disable the notification without changing the overall access rules. But I get why you want to avoid the confusion for users!
You might need to accept that the prompt is just part of the way the policy works. Maybe consider documenting the behavior so users know what to expect? It could help reduce frustration on their end!
I mean, is it really that much of a bother? The prompt is actually helpful for users who might not know they need to encrypt their devices to save files. It could save you some support calls down the line.
True, but some users might accidentally try to encrypt something that shouldn’t be encrypted, like a camera memory card. It’s definitely a tricky balance.
I see what you're getting at. If the notification is a pain for users, it might be worth looking into some training materials or notes on using BitLocker instead.
