Is it worth upgrading to AM5 or staying with AM4?

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well. I have a bit of a tricky situation with my PC that I need some advice on. Recently, my computer started randomly restarting without any blue screen, just a colored screen before it shuts down. I took it to a technician who diagnosed my GPU as the problem, so I replaced it with a 6650XT. My setup is a pre-built PC from 2020 with an Asus Prime A320M-K motherboard, and besides that GPU change, the only upgrades I've done are adding a 1TB NVME SSD and increasing my RAM by 8GB.

After taking it to another technician for a deep clean, he discovered that my power supply was unstable and that my motherboard might have a short circuit, which could explain why the GPU wasn't displaying any video. Now, I'm in a tough spot where I might need to rebuild a lot of my system.

I'm debating whether to save up for a full upgrade to AM5, which means getting a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM, which would cost a lot here in Brazil, or if I should stick to AM4 and just get a new motherboard and CPU (I'm looking at the TUF GAMING B550M PLUS and Ryzen 7 5700x). Any thoughts on what would be the best route to take? Thanks a lot for your help!

Stay on AM4. It’s just more economical right now, and you can upgrade incrementally. If you're looking to get a new CPU paired with your new GPU, the R5 3500x can still hold you over for a bit. Spending less money now might serve you better in the long run.

I'd say it's better to stick with AM4 for now, especially since it offers solid performance without breaking the bank. You can find great B550 motherboards that won't require you to ditch your existing RAM or CPU if they're still working well. Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X would be a good move for future-proofing your setup without spending too much.

AM5 is cool, but given the prices in Brazil, it might not be worth it unless you're going for high-end components.

Definitely go with AM4! Upgrading to a B550 or even a B450 motherboard will give you solid performance and allow for a nice CPU upgrade down the line. If your 6650XT is that much better than your old GPU, the R5 3500x might bottleneck it a bit, but for budget constraints, just getting a more powerful CPU later is a good route.

AM5 just isn’t going to justify the cost unless you have a lot to spend.
