I've recently lost a device, and it's currently dead. Google indicated that it was in a different town on a day when I was at home and didn't leave. This made me suspect it might have been stolen or found by someone. I've posted about it in a local lost and found group and someone suggested a tracking company specializing in dead devices. They asked me to log out of my Google account on my active phone, stated they could track it for 100 pounds, and offered a phone recovery process for 170 pounds. Is this company trustworthy?

Sounds pretty sketchy to me. Who even recommended this tracking company? If it's someone random from that group, I'd be cautious. Maybe check if anyone else has had personal experience with them, especially under the name Grath Techs.
Definitely a scam! Keeping in mind that these "tracking" services need the device to be turned on and connected to internet; if a thief has it, they’re unlikely to help you out. If it's been password protected, then it's pretty unlikely some random person would be able to access it to use such tracking methods anyway. Just keep your head up; there’s only so much one can do.
Do not sign out of your Google account! That could give them a backdoor to your info. If they really had your device, they’d probably try to bypass the lock screen, but without the password, they might struggle. Besides, remember, the device you're trying to track isn't a phone, so what do they really hope to accomplish? Just turning it on and connecting to the internet would still allow you to see its last known location on Google!
