Hey everyone! I've been using an RTX 3070 Ti with my Intel Core i5-6500 for about six months now, but it's starting to show its age when I try to play games like Monster Hunter: World and Dark Souls III. Since the i5-6500 came out in 2015, I'm looking to upgrade. I have 32GB of DDR4 RAM and game at 1080p. Ideally, I want to hit a stable 60fps on Monster Hunter: World with the lowest graphics settings since it can be pretty poorly optimized. My friend suggested the Intel Core i5-14400F, but I've seen a lot of folks pairing GPUs like mine with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. What do you recommend?

Consider the 5700X3D as a serious option too; it pairs really well with the 3070 Ti and can offer amazing performance. I upgraded from an R5 3600 and it transformed my gaming experience without the need for a whole new setup!

The 5600X is a fantastic choice! Just make sure to check what motherboard you have before you buy.

He’s currently using an LGA1151 V1 motherboard, so he’ll need a new one.

Honestly, both options you've mentioned are fine. If you’re looking for a bit more future-proofing, though, I’d recommend the 7600X with an AM5 board. It's worth the investment!

If you want to stick to budget-friendly older tech, you might look at a Core i7 from the 8th to 11th generation. An i7-9700 and a compatible motherboard can be a cost-effective solution without having to buy new RAM!

If you can swing it, go for an AM5 platform. The Ryzen 5 7600 or 7700 would be solid choices.

Right now, budget CPUs are tricky. The 7600X is the best on a live platform but pricey. For true budget options, I'd suggest either the Ryzen 5600X or the Intel 14400F, but keep in mind they’re on older platforms. The 5600X is a great pick since the high-end LGA 1700 options aren't really that great. If you can, go for the 7600X for better long-term performance.
