Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on the Western Digital 1TB storage drive. I'm in tech training and plan to use an external hard drive for Linux and coding to build my Cyber Security portfolio. I've had some frustrating experiences with partitioning USB devices in the past that messed up my space, and while I'm considering investing in a physically encrypted hard drive, it feels a bit excessive for my needs right now. I'm mainly worried about whether 1TB is sufficient for my projects. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with this product! Thanks!

Yeah, if you're planning on running Linux from it, I'd strongly recommend going for an SSD—especially since booting from a mechanical drive can be slow. WD has many different variations of their 1TB drives, so figuring out the specific model is key to making a solid choice.
You can easily find external SSDs that are great for your needs! But honestly, for just storage and backups, a mechanical drive should still work fine. Just clarify which model you're considering.
It really depends on which model you're looking at since Western Digital has a bunch of 1TB drives. If you're booting from the drive, an SSD would be better for performance. For regular storage, a mechanical drive should work just fine. Just make sure to also get a backup drive to keep your data safe!
Thanks for the tip! I was thinking a mechanical drive would be sufficient. I did have some issues with my USB, but that was my fault with the partitioning.
I’m using a laptop, and my gaming PC is already packed. Any suggestions for good external SSDs?
