I'm in a bit of a bind because my Microsoft Office subscription just expired, and I've got a paper to finish. I used to think Word came standard on most computers, but now it seems like everything requires a subscription. I'm looking for a reliable, free option that can handle basic formatting and save my work as a .docx file so I can submit it easily. I heard WPS Office mentioned but would love to know if anyone has used it for writing papers or if there are better alternatives out there. Any suggestions?

I would steer clear of WPS Office; I've heard it's tied to spyware concerns. Instead, give LibreOffice or OpenOffice a shot, they're much safer options!
Don't forget about Google Docs! It's feature-rich and pretty much mirrors Microsoft Word, but the downside is it's Google, so just keep that in mind. If you're looking for something with minimal fuss, it’s worth a try!
Using web-based word processors is a great choice! They're designed to be compatible with desktop systems and are usually free. Definitely check those out if you're in a hurry.
Another shout-out for LibreOffice! It's a great tool for writing papers, and it handles .docx files really well. Plus, it's free, which is a big plus when you're on a tight budget.
I definitely recommend LibreOffice! It's open-source, free to download, and has a lot of functionality. It works well with Microsoft Office files, so you can save your documents in that format.
Agreed! LibreOffice really is the best option if you want something that won't cost you a dime and still gets the job done.
