Is the 30 Series GPU still a good choice for 1440p gaming?

I'm considering an upgrade since my RX6600 struggles with some demanding games at 1440p, like The Finals and Hunt Showdown. I've been browsing used marketplaces like eBay and Facebook Marketplace but noticed that the 40 series is quite a bit more expensive—several hundred dollars more than the 30 series. For instance, I found a 3080 (10GB) for $330 in my area, while a used 4070 is listed at over $580. Should I go for the 30 series, wait for the prices to drop on the 50/90 series, or check out some newer 40/7000 models? What do you think is the best route?

Honestly, I’d probably still be rocking my 3070 if I didn’t have the urge to upgrade early. Just keep in mind that the GPU market changes fast, so act when you find a good deal!

The 30 series is still very solid! If you don’t typically use a lot of VRAM, the 3080 will serve you well at 1440p. I usually lower my settings a bit to get the best framerate, but if you need more VRAM, consider options like the 6800, 6800XT, or even the 7900 series.

For $330, you can't really beat the performance of the 3080. There aren’t many new cards that can compete with it at that price point.

A 3080 at $330 is a fantastic deal, especially if it works well! It should handle 1440p gaming without issues. Just keep an eye on how much VRAM you’ll need for your specific games.

Yeah, I get that. The 10GB VRAM does make me a bit nervous, though.

You might also want to consider the 7800XT or a used 6800/XT. They’re around the same price as the 4070 and can offer solid performance.

I’ve been checking those too! Just using the 4070 as a reference.
