My laptop's fans have stopped working, so I took it to a repair shop for diagnosis and repair. I've created a secondary user account with full admin permissions, but the shop is asking for the password to my main user account. Do they really need access to that, especially for hardware issues?

They shouldn't need your Windows password at all for hardware issues. Usually, access to the BIOS is enough for them to diagnose the problem. Just stick to your secondary account; everything they need should be accessible without your main password.
Exactly! I thought so too. I’m currently in Germany, which complicates things a bit since my dad and stepmother are handling the language barrier with the shop. They’ve had my laptop for over 10 days now and just started asking for the main user login, which is a bit concerning.
