I'm looking for a way to remotely access a Windows workstation that doesn't involve RDP because a specific software I need to use detects RDP sessions and stops running. The software is locked to this computer and requires a peripheral to function correctly. Occasionally, someone else on the same network, but located far away, needs to use it. I want to ensure that the local user can see that a remote session is happening, or at least that the computer is secured during remote access. Any suggestions or solutions that could work without the issues RDP brings? Thanks in advance!

Have you thought about changing the default RDP port? Sometimes the software only checks for active ports like 3389, so it could work if you utilize a different port for RDP access if that's acceptable. Just a thought!
You might want to check out Splashtop. It has features to 'blank screen' and 'lock keyboard/mouse' of the local device, which helps keep the local user informed and secure during a session.
Practically any Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tool or other remote connection software would work in this case. Just ensure it meets your software's requirements.
RealVNC is another solid option that allows remote access while keeping the local user updated. It's definitely worth a look!
You could also explore TeamViewer or AnyDesk. These applications have remote access tools built-in, so they might fit your needs well.
Yeah, GoTo/LogMeIn has a similar feature that notifies the local user about the session at the top of their screen, which might be worth considering too.
