I've got a Seagate Expansion 2TB 2.5-inch external hard drive that started beeping when I plug it in and isn't being detected by Windows 10. I figured it might be a head issue, so I want to open it up and check. I've removed the case, but I don't see any screws. It looks like there's some metal tape all over it. Before I start trying to peel this off, I'd like to confirm if that's necessary and get some advice on how to proceed and what tools I might need. I'm a retired electrical engineer and have performed a similar task years ago, but I know technology has changed a lot since then. I appreciate any constructive advice, but please skip the 'send it for professional help' suggestions. I have important data on the drive, but I'm not looking to spend on a recovery service. Thanks!

Opening up a hard drive can lead to permanent data loss, especially if you're not experienced with the process. If it were me, I'd create a disk image of the failing drive before doing anything else. Otherwise, I really suggest professional help since the data seems important to you.
