Should I upgrade my CPU, GPU, or both for better performance?

Hey everyone! I'm experiencing some lag while recording with OBS, and my computer freezes for about 3-5 seconds when I edit in Premiere Pro. Right now, I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G along with an AMD Radeon 5600XT. I'm leaning towards upgrading to a better CPU to manage these tasks effectively, but I'm uncertain about which CPU would be the best fit. My motherboard is a micro ATX Asus GL10DH. Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for your help!

If you're on a budget, just get a used Ryzen 5 3600. It's a cheap part and will help a lot. But I think you should consider upgrading both if possible!

Ok, thanks! I'm looking to spend around $300-500 on both CPU and GPU, so I hope that works.

It looks like upgrading both the CPU and GPU could give you a better experience overall. For the CPU, I suggest looking for a used Ryzen 5 3600X or Ryzen 7 3700X. For your GPU, consider something like a used RX 6750 XT or 6800 XT. If you're leaning towards new parts, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RX 7600 XT 16GB could be solid options too!

Gotcha! Thanks so much!

CPU should be your priority here. That said, your GPU isn’t great either, so think about upgrading both if your budget allows. A high-end Ryzen 3000 is still solid for handling tasks like OBS and light edits! Just weigh how much you're investing into this system versus saving for a whole new build later down the line.

Alright, thanks! I'll figure out my budget and see what I can do.

Honestly, I’d say upgrade both! They’ll work well together, and you’ll notice a significant improvement in performance for gaming and editing.
