How do I safely turn off my PC after a test boot outside the case?

I haven't built a PC in a while and I'm planning to do a test boot for a new build I'm working on for a friend. After the test boot, what's the safest way to turn it off? Is it okay to just switch off the PSU? I want to make sure I'm doing everything right, especially since it's been some time since my last build. Thanks in advance!

It’s really not a big deal. Turning off the PSU or pulling the power cable is fine. Just keep in mind that sudden power loss can cause data loss if your drives are writing something. But if it’s a brand-new build, you should have nothing to worry about!

Yeah, back in the day with older systems like the 386 or 486, you could power off right at the DOS prompt without any issues. The shutdown screens came later. Just make sure to have no writing processes ongoing!

You can definitely just turn off the PSU! Jumping the power button pins works too if you prefer that method. No stress about it!

The easiest way to turn it off is just like you turned it on—either short the power buttons or just flip the PSU switch. It’s totally fine either way!
