Which Game Engine Should I Choose for My Bachelor Thesis: Godot or Unreal Engine?

I'm in the process of planning my bachelor thesis and am considering creating a video game. Not having any experience with game engines, I'm trying to figure out which one might be easier to learn and use: Godot or Unreal Engine. I've come across information that Unreal Engine primarily uses C++, which I do like, but I also prefer a language that's more accessible. Additionally, I've heard that knowing Unreal Engine could improve my employment prospects in the gaming industry post-graduation. Can anyone share their thoughts on which engine might be better suited for my needs, as well as any pros and cons of each?

When choosing between the two engines, focus on the type of game you want to create. Dive into each engine's feature sets and tools. Ultimately, knowing programming and game mechanics is what really matters; the engine is secondary. I personally lean towards Unreal Engine, but instead of making an entire game, I’d suggest developing a single system to showcase your programming skills. Remember, while blueprints can create a game, they don't necessarily equate to a solid programming portfolio. Just my two cents!

That sounds logical! I think I’ll probably go with Godot too since it’s indie-friendly and has great support for 2D games. I’m aiming to create a top-down 2D game, and I hear coding in C++ can be tough. Godot uses GDScript, which feels more accessible, plus it supports C# and C++, and I actually prefer C#.
