Hey everyone! I'm currently playing Minecraft using the Legacy Launcher on Zorin OS 17.3, and I'm running into some serious freezing issues on my laptop. I have 8GB of RAM, and it seems to fill up quickly with just Discord, Minecraft (which I have allocated 4GB), and a couple of Chrome tabs open. Sometimes Minecraft freezes up and even the mouse cursor becomes sluggish, but after a moment, things start running smoothly again. Can anyone suggest how I can fix this?

The best long-term solution is really to upgrade your RAM. Any fixes you make will just be short-term solutions. If all else fails, try to run only Minecraft and allocate enough swap to keep your system stable.
Honestly, 8GB of RAM isn't much for running all that stuff together. Chrome, Discord, and Minecraft can take up a lot of memory. I don't see anything abnormal here. But if you ever had issues with Minecraft, sometimes it could be the Java settings or version you're using.
If your browser is only using 1 to 1.5GB with just a few tabs, then mixing that with the resources from Discord and Minecraft might put you really close to maxing out your RAM. If you start swapping to disk, it'll slow everything down. Switching to zram for swap could help, especially if your current swap is on a slower disk.
Discord can really eat up a lot of memory. Have you checked if Zorin is using zram? That might help a bit with RAM management.
I haven't looked into that, but I will! Thanks for the tip!
Zorin is based on an older kernel, which isn't great for gaming. Setting up a swap file could really relieve some pressure on your RAM. There's a simple tutorial to add swap space if you need one.
I'll check my Java settings; maybe that's part of the issue. Thanks for the insight!
