I'm in the process of upgrading my PC and looking to switch from an AM4 to an AM5 socket. I've got a budget, but it isn't unlimited. Right now, I'm considering either the Ryzen 7 7700X or the Ryzen 7 9700X. I'd love to hear if there's a better option out there too, especially since I'll be pairing it with a 4070 Super graphics card.

Check out this review I found—it's got charts comparing all the recent gen CPUs. It can really help you see the price versus performance for your specific needs: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/27.html
If you're primarily gaming, I'd recommend going with the 7700X. The 9700X doesn't really offer a significant speed boost. The only real upgrades over the 7700X would be the 7800X3D or 9800X3D models, and if you're interested in something a bit more budget-friendly, consider the 7600X3D too.
I noticed the 9700X is only $14 AUD (about $9 USD) more than the 7700X. Honestly, if the price gap is that small, why not just go for it?
The 9700X does perform slightly better than the 7700X and is more power-efficient. It really depends on how much more you're willing to spend for that small boost.
