I'm considering upgrading my RAM from 16GB to 32GB of DDR4 in 2025. I plan to rebuild my PC in about a year and a half and will switch to DDR5 then. Is this upgrade a good idea?

If you can find the 32GB RAM for a good price, definitely go for it! The used market is great—ideally, you shouldn't pay more than $40-50. I've found that 16GB is pretty limiting, especially when multitasking between gaming and browsing. I noticed a significant difference when I upgraded to 32GB, and only after trying 64GB did I realize how quickly the benefits taper off. But I hit the limits of 32 quite often, so it’s worth it if you need the extra power.
Sounds like a good move! I did that upgrade a while back and then moved to 64GB later on, but 16GB felt too cramped for any serious work. If you're planning to multitask, 32GB will serve you well until you transition to DDR5.
Yeah, I think it's a solid choice! I'd recommend getting 2x16GB sticks instead of adding another 2x8GB. Running just two sticks is more efficient. Plus, the price difference isn't that big—2x8GB is around $45 while 2x16GB is about $55. Good luck with your build!
Okay, thank you!
