I recently found out that my company is implementing a mandatory return to office protocol for anyone within a 40-mile radius. I've never held a formal Cloud position, but I have experience with DevOps automation frameworks and I've worked on various internal projects. I've mostly done on-prem work and have limited experience with infrastructure as code. Here's a summary of my most recent job responsibilities: I've architected automation frameworks for XR application deployments, maintained a re-signing environment, developed internal web-based tools, and integrated observability systems. I'm concerned whether this experience qualifies me for a Cloud DevOps role. Can anyone share insights on making the jump?

The level you’re applying for makes a big difference. For entry-level, your resume looks good, but you may need side projects to showcase some hands-on Cloud experience, like using Terraform to set up a simple application. For a senior role, anecdotal experience won't cut it—you'll need some concrete Cloud-centric examples of your work.
Honestly, I'd say go for it! Your experience is solid, especially with CI/CD and automation. Even if it’s on-prem, those skills are pretty transferable to a junior Cloud role. It really depends on how you present your experience in interviews and whether you can back it up with some practical knowledge.
Thanks for the encouragement! I definitely want to highlight my CI/CD experience.
I think you’d have a good shot applying to junior roles with your background, although you might need to pick up some specific Cloud tools or experience. They’ll likely want to see your understanding of observability and if you've done any work with cloud resources management. Don’t forget to brush up on your networking basics, too!
That's a good point! I’ll make sure to study up on any gaps I have.
I appreciate that insight. I guess I need to demonstrate how my foundational skills can apply in a Cloud context.
