Why is my CPU temperature stuck at 100°C in Windows but shows 0°C in BIOS?

Hey everyone! I recently had a friend help me with my PC setup, particularly with the fans and RGB lighting that weren't working since the build was completed. After some tinkering, we managed to fix it, but then I started facing a serious issue. When we booted up, the PC became extremely slow, and I noticed that the water cooling fans were stopping. I used a temperature monitoring software on Windows, and it consistently showed my CPU at 100°C, even when the CPU usage was barely registering. When I checked the BIOS, it displayed a temperature of 0°C for the CPU. We set all the fans to run at 100% speed and rebooted, but the CPU temp still read 100°C, even though the processor and the cooling system felt physically cold. I waited 12 hours without turning on the PC again, and the temperature was still stuck at 100°C. My CPU temperature was fine before this incident, so I suspect it could be a cable issue since we were messing with the cables on the motherboard. I seriously doubt that anything was physically damaged. Here's a quick rundown of my build: - Intel i9 12900 KS - MSI Pro B760M-P motherboard - Cougar AIO Poseidon Elite 240 water cooling - MSI Armor V700 case (Aquarius Pro) Any ideas on what might be causing this? Thanks!

You might also want to try resetting the BIOS to see if that resolves any sensor issues. If the temperature readings don't seem right at idle, it could also be a problem with the motherboard or a corrupted sensor. Sometimes, clearing the CMOS can help as well. Just a thought!

Thanks for the tip! I'll look into resetting the BIOS and see if that helps.

It sounds like the issue might be related to the CPU cooler not being properly connected, even if the fans are spinning. Sometimes, the cooler can be seated incorrectly or you might have inadvertently unplugged something. Given that the temp shows 0°C in BIOS, the sensor might not be reading correctly. Double-check all connections to the cooler and motherboard to ensure everything is securely plugged in. If possible, try reseating the cooler to see if that helps.

That makes sense! I'll check the connections again. I hope it's just a loose cable.
