I've been wondering if anyone's still using Perplexity these days. A year or two back, it was my go-to for quick, reliable answers. However, with the introduction of internet access in ChatGPT, I've noticed a significant improvement in its capabilities over time. At first, it didn't match Perplexity's quality, but the ability to select reasoning models for internet searches has improved things a lot. On the other hand, Perplexity hasn't really evolved. Sure, the Pro plan lets you access the latest models, like Claude Sonnet 4, but I think the companies creating these models understand better how to optimize them for parsing tasks. Plus, Anthropic has dropped the parsing feature in their Claude model, which is concerning. A major drawback with Perplexity is still its minimal context window; it struggles to maintain continuity in conversations, making in-depth research sessions frustrating. So, I'm curious if others have noticed the same issues, and what tools you're using now for source-backed research?

I actually use Perplexity all the time and find it way better for research than ChatGPT!
I recently unlocked Perplexity Pro after getting a torrent downloader for my phone. It's okay, but honestly, I don't see any remarkable advantages it offers over other options. If you didn't have any tools and weren't keen on subscriptions, it’s not a bad backup.
Yeah, I’ve been using it since I got a yearly subscription for just 15 bucks. You should check out r/DiscountDen7 for those deals!
You know you can actually get it for free, right? Just a quick download and you can use the pro version indefinitely!
From my perspective, it's pretty solid for coding tasks - definitely better than ChatGPT in that area. It was a lot worse a year ago, though.

What about the Deep Research feature? Do you find it's more effective than GPT's? And how do you deal with the context issues I mentioned earlier? Do you just start new threads and explain everything again?
