What to do when my laptop is frozen and won’t turn off?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop. It got completely frozen with all my windows open for over an hour, and this happened right after I opened Steam—it's stuck on the "updating Steam" pop-up. My drawing tablet is plugged in, and it still shows my drawing program as open. I've tried everything I can think of: holding down the power button for more than a minute, using ctrl+alt+del, closing and reopening it, and even unplugging and replugging everything. Nothing seems to work! The only thing that still functions is my backlit keyboard. I really need to resolve this without losing my work—any suggestions?

Have you tried unplugging the battery? Sometimes that can force a shutdown if the power button isn’t responding. Just make sure you’re ready to recharge afterward!

Did that work for you?

Eventually, the battery will drain, and that should help reset it. But I totally get it—losing work is the worst. Just take a deep breath while you wait it out.

I really need it to not die on me right now! This is so stressful.
