Why Can’t My Mac Connect to My Windows SMB Share?

I'm running MacOS Sequoia on my Mac, but I'm facing issues connecting to the SMB share on my Windows home server. I've tried using both the IP address and hostname to connect. Interestingly, my iPad, iPhone, and even my Windows laptop can connect just fine to the same share. Does anyone have insights on why my Mac isn't able to connect? Any troubleshooting tips or things I should check? It's worth noting that everything is on the same network, and my Mac can ping and resolve DNS for the Windows server. By the way, the connection path I'm using looks like smb:/// or smb:///.

You might want to check if SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is enabled on your Windows machine. You can find this under "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel. Sometimes, that helps with compatibility issues between different OS versions.

I will give this a shot for troubleshooting purposes and report back. What I don't get is why the mobile Apple devices would have better SMB support than their desktop OS.

Same behavior for me, MacOS says it can't find the server, and I never get prompted for credentials. I’m trying to connect via IP address, and I’m sure it's the correct one.
