How can I factory reset my HP laptop if it’s low on space?

I'm struggling to factory reset my old HP laptop because it keeps telling me I need to free up about 1 gigabyte of space. I've spent a couple of hours trying to delete files, but I still can't get enough space. In the process, I think I accidentally deleted some important files, which might be causing some issues. I'm really looking for immediate help with this—any tips would be greatly appreciated!

One option you might consider is using a different computer to download the Windows Install Tool onto a USB drive and then booting from that on your HP laptop for a fresh Windows installation. This way, you won't have to worry about freeing up space or dealing with any deleted files that could be causing problems. Alternatively, you could use a program like WinDirStat to see where your storage space is being used, which might help you figure out what can be deleted. It's odd you're having trouble deleting just 1GB; hopefully, it's just user error and not a sign that your drive is failing.

Right? It seems strange that you can't clear a mere gigabyte. You might be facing some error that's not letting you delete files properly.

You probably don't even need a second computer! If your laptop is still functioning, just grab a USB drive with enough space (5GB should do) and go from there. USBs are pretty cheap, so consider getting one that has even more storage for future use. Just remember, if you’re going for a full factory reset and you don’t need to keep anything, it could be a sign of an underlying issue if the disk doesn’t have enough space after formatting.

Are you using Windows for the factory reset process? It can sometimes be a bit tricky if you're not following the right steps.

Yes, I'm on Windows!
