I've recently been experiencing some performance issues with my setup. I'm running an i7 12700k paired with an RTX 5080, and I've noticed that even after lowering the resolution in certain games, my FPS doesn't seem to improve. It leads me to think that my CPU might be bottlenecking my GPU. Would upgrading to a 14900k be more cost-effective for me than switching to a 9800x3D, especially since I wouldn't have to buy a new motherboard? Also, can I keep my 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM?

Keep in mind that 12th gen CPUs running with DDR4 can be limiting. You might find more benefit from an x3D AM5 CPU instead of just going for a higher-end LGA 1700 chip, since DDR4 could still be holding your performance back.
Lowering the resolution can actually put more strain on your CPU, so if you're trying to diagnose a bottleneck, you might want to crank up your graphics settings instead. That could give you a better idea of where the issue lies.
What motherboard are you currently using? It can help determine your upgrade options.
