I'm in the process of building a new PC with some great specs - I'm going for a 5070ti and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. In the past, I always paired an SSD for my OS, programs, and games with an HDD for large file storage, mainly because I have a lot of mp4 videos. This time, I'm looking into getting a Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD for the OS and applications, and I'm considering adding a 4TB Seagate HDD for my personal files that don't need to load super fast. Does this sound like a solid plan? I want to avoid cluttering my SSD with huge files since they tend to be pricey. Thanks for any advice! 🙂

Using an HDD for bulk storage is perfect, especially for pictures and videos. Consider going for a higher capacity since it's often just a little more to get an 8TB or even larger. You get better value that way!
Definitely a good idea! I work in design and archive most of my files on a mechanical drive. I reserve the SSD for high-speed access to applications and video editing.
HDDs are great for backup and storage of all types of data that aren't games or applications. If you're not sure about the 4TB model, keep an eye on prices; sometimes, a slightly larger drive can be just a bit more. Consider options like the DataHoarder forum for insights on reliable drives too!
That's exactly what HDDs are designed for! They're affordable and provide ample storage space for large files such as videos.
Sounds like a solid setup! I have a mix of storage too — 2TB SSD for OS and frequently used stuff, 2TB for games, and a 6TB HDD for all my rarely accessed files. It works great!
I get that! The 6TB option for only a bit more sounds tempting, but I agree, if you don't think you'll use it, waiting might be the way to go. Storage prices will likely drop even further.
