Hey everyone! I just got my first solid computer setup for gaming, specifically a Legion 7i gen 8 tower. I've always played on lesser laptops before, mainly World of Warcraft. Now that I'm diving into more graphics-heavy games like Dune: Awakening, Enshrouded, and Last Epoch, I want to make sure everything is optimized. I'm currently using Spectrum internet with their basic router, and I'm considering whether I should spend $200 on a decent WiFi 6E router. Since I can't use an Ethernet cable due to my apartment layout, do you think it's worth the investment for my gaming needs?

It really depends on what speeds you're currently getting with your setup. Typically, for games like WoW and those you mentioned, you shouldn't have too much concern with lag unless you're not getting decent speeds. Running a basic router is usually fine unless you start experiencing consistent issues. A WiFi 6E router might give you a smoother experience, but it’s not a must-have right now.
Honestly, if you can’t connect directly via Ethernet, upgrading to a new WiFi router might not be that impactful for your situation. Your games don't require super low latency, especially since you're not playing competitive shooters where every millisecond counts. Stick with the Spectrum router for now. You can always upgrade later if you feel like performance is lacking, but as of now, you should be fine!
Thanks for the reassurance! I figured that might be the case.
Yeah, I occasionally feel a bit of lag with Dune, but that game is still in development, so it might not just be my connection.
